Experience Summary
Organic, synthetic chemist with recent academic experience as well as 9 years of industry experience. My time in industry was spent on several team-oriented projects, including: diabetes, hepatitis C, and thyroid receptor programs. This research required an aptitude in synthesis, purification/isolation, and use of spectral instrumentation (NMR, HPLC, LCMS). I recently completed an MS in Chemistry at UCSD. Teaching chemistry (both general and organic) were some of my primary and most rewarding responsibilities as a graduate student at the university. Working in industry prior to my graduate studies served to deepen the experience at the university.
Teaching Style
I have enjoyed teaching ever since I was given the opportunity to teach a lab as an undergraduate student at San Diego State University. My enthusiasm for teaching continued into my graduate studies. I was a graduate TA instructor at the University of California at San Diego. I completed the university’s required course on student teaching and taught undergraduates general chemistry and all levels of undergraduate organic chemistry. These sections involved a traditional classroom and averaged about 15 students in size. I was able to refine my preparation, lecture style, board work, and pace during these sessions.
