Experience Summary
As a graduate of the Studio Music and Jazz program at the University of Tennessee, I approach every teaching situation with the same level of care and conscientiousness my professors afforded me. Improvisation was heavily emphasized in all my classes, which gave me flexibility and adaptability to a variety of situations. I strive to know the material I am called on to teach, and am driven to ensure that my students grasp the knowledge they are relying on me to share with them.
Teaching Style
I strive for efficiency in teaching style, but I realize the importance of studying each student to see what motivates each one to take the next step closer to the goal. It is not enough for me to simply disseminate information. I believe it is vital that the student understands what she or he needs to know. In a tutoring situation, I feel that, within reason, enough time should be taken to allow each student to absorb, apprehend and apply the knowledge in practical ways. My goal is to truly educate, not merely babysit.
