Experience Summary
I began my teaching career teaching free SAT preparation courses for students at schools in low socio-economic areas. This exhilarating and fulfilling experience led me to return to school to obtain my teaching certificate. I have taught both elementary and middle school students in a classroom setting, and have successfully tutored high school students in Algebra, Algebra II, Trigonometry, and Precalculus. I enjoy working with students of all ages and am passionate about providing excellent, individualized education.
Teaching Style
I believe education should be individualized for each student. Instruction should be flexible and creative in order to adapt to a student’s learning style, speed, and personality. Additionally, students need to learn not just enough facts to pass a test, but they need to learn think critically and to problem solve. This means teaching not just the “what” and the “how” of a subject, but the most important and most frequently skipped “why.” Through patience, constructivist techniques that a allow a student to create their own deep understanding, and a good dose of humor, I have effectively taught a wide range of students, including students for whom English is their second language, students with learning disabilities, and gifted students.
