Experience Summary
A life-long college student, my fulfillment comes from constantly learn new ideas, from understanding the person I am teaching and by adapting my teaching to the needs to be met.
The past three years have been spent as a high school Special Educator reteaching and remediating students in Algebra I and Geometry. Prior to that I taught one year as a Special Educator in a self-contained grade 3-5 classroom. I was the Music Teacher for a Catholic school where I taught K-8. Finally, I spent 15 years as a private violin teacher focusing on music theory.
Teaching Style
I can best describe my teaching style as flexible. I start with traditional paper-pencil methods. If further clarification is needed I use surrounding objects or tools such as Smart board, manipulatives, different colored pencils, paper-folding or anything else necessary to try. I couple the above with questioning tactics to uncover where the missing link is for the student. Student engagement is emparitive; I watch body language and facial expressions to understand the level of comprehension and connection of the materials presented.
