Experience Summary
I have been tutoring subject listed on my resume for about 11 years. Currently, I tutor 1) primary grade children in language arts, 2) one adult in computer programming skills (algorithms, MS SQL Server 2008, Java), and 3) through a couple of tutoring companies. I conduct tutoring in groups, one-on-one, in-school, and in-home.
My education in geophysics and geology have provided me an intensive and extensive understand of several areas of applied mathematics, physics, and chemistry, all subjects which I have tutored and/or taught in the community college setting.
Teaching Style
My learning and teaching preference is reading/writing. I adjust to students who are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. I like to use examples to drive concepts home, to make them relevant to my students' lives, and to ground these concepts in reality. Examples include, say, how geometry is used to create movie 3D special effects, or how algebra is used in sound editing in a sound studio.
I also intersperse jokes and puns to help the student relax and be assured that (s)he is in a safe, secure environment for comfortable learning.
