Experience Summary
During the last twelve years I have worked within the public school system in both Arkansas and Florida. Between 1998 and 2000 I worked as a substitute for the Cabot School District. Between the years of 2000 and 2005 I worked with the Special Education teacher at Landmark Elementary in Little Rock, AR to ensure student achievement. In 2005 I moved to Ocala, FL and worked for the Hammett L. Bowen Elementary until June 2010. While in the district I was able to complete my ESOL certification as well as work with special education students in a full inclusion setting. Though I am certified to teach all subjects, my fields of expertise are in the areas of math, science, and language arts.
Teaching Style
I love to teach children and find it both a challenge as well as an inspiration. When teaching I find it necessary to determine the learning styles of each student as well as areas of interest. Once these have been determined it is much easier to determine the areas of academic needs and teach according to how they best learn. Learning should not be seen as a chore but rather as an opportunity to succeed in life. Whenever possible I include technology into the curriculum to enhance teaching. If teaching a large class it may be necessary to break into small groups to focus on the needs of certain students while providing enrichment activities for others. Positive reinforcement is the key to a student becoming more confident.
