Experience Summary
I recently graduated from the University of Nevada Reno with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Throughout my college career, I had many opportunities to teach elementary students, both in the classroom and in one-on-one situations. From 2003 to 2006 I worked in Texas as an after school tutor helping children with test preparation.
At the University of Nevada Reno I taught lessons on science and mathematics to second-grade students twice every week. I also tutored a sixth-grade student twice a week in literacy, including reading, writing, and spelling skills. I completed a sixteen-week internship in a fifth-grade classroom with the support of a lead teacher, including four weeks of full-control.
Teaching Style
I love working with children and I have a passion for teaching students. I believe that every child has the capacity to learn if they are given the correct tools and the proper environment. I believe children learn best using a hands-on approach that includes the student actively participating in the learning process, rather than being on the sidelines and simply told what to do or what to know. Learning through experience will create students who are life-long learners.
