Experience Summary
For almost twenty years, I’ve worked with students as a K-12 as a tutor, coordinator, counselor, and advocate in a variety of educational environments. I am committed to the belief that achieving a good education is the most viable way for students to become productive citizens. In 2006, I returned to college to obtain my bachelor’s degree and by flexing my classes scheduling, earned 83 hours in 6 consecutive semesters and graduated Magna cum laude from Eastern Illinois University in the December 2007. My educational focus was Psychology and Philosophy, alone with writing intensive courses and I am also a twice-published fiction writer and a published poet.
Teaching Style
I enjoy working with all students and have tutored students for the past 4 years in the AVID program. Additionally, I tutored and served as a writing to coach to high-school and college students during my off time. My focus is helping students understand how to aptly address course assignments, how to structure and assemble essays, term papers and research papers and how to decipher themes and motifs in classic readings for assigned papers. My method is to guide students to becoming skilled writers through the editing process and use of an explanatory narrative. I believe the best learning is taught in a manner that encourages and supports students to find their own way as life-long learners.
