Experience Summary
Earning my BA degree and Teaching Credential from SDSU, I also have units equivalent to a Master's in curriculum development and health information. Recognized as an outstanding and dedicated teacher by parents and students, I have successfully taught primary, upper grades and junior high. In addition, I instructed high school students in preparation for the SAT test in reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and all areas of language arts. I set up and directed an after-school tutoring program for K-7th grades to help students needing help with organizational and study skill, test-taking techniques and appropriate academic support. Success was reflected in higher test scores, improved grades and increased self-confidence.
Teaching Style
Teaching in an inspiring and positive teaching style, I have special talent to explain and to clarify difficult concepts in a variety of ways that effectively "get the idea across" in a manner that makes learning easier and more fun. I believe that a structured environment with open communication is most effective and conducive to learning. I work with students to develop critical and independent problem-solving skills through praise and building confidence and self-esteem. Because all children do not learn the same way, I incorporate all three learning styles--auditory, visual and kinesthetic, or learning by doing-- into my teaching in order to meet individual needs and ability to learn.
