Experience Summary
With a BA in Communications from Michigan State University and a MBA from the University of Phoenix, I have learned the value of education and understand the weight it holds in society. My experience with tutoring children is quite varied as I have gained skills from various opportunities. During my years at MSU, I worked in an after-school program called America Reads that used an interactive approach to tutoring. The program was primarily one-on-one tutoring to ensure adequate attention to each student. The program focused on getting students up to speed on their reading level but provided other opportunities to help with other subjects as well. The best part was the relationships that were built with the students.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is not easily defined as each student learns differently. To be an effective teacher I must adapt to the learning style of each student and address their needs accordingly. Although, I do not possess a definite teaching style I do have a specific set of guidelines or practices that I implement in the teaching/tutoring process. For instance, I encourage students to always ask questions. If you don’t understand the approach that I am taking, please stop me so that I can use another approach. This not only helps me do my best job but it also ensures that the student doesn't get frustrated and it establishes a level of trust in the relationship.
