Experience Summary
As someone who recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I have taken numerous of math/science courses throughout my education career, which has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math and science. In addition, I have tutored students at various age groups. While I was volunteering at the New Life Volunteer Service from Jan 07 to Dec 07, I tutored middle school students on their math homework. When I worked at the Math Learning Center at University of Illinois at Chicago from Jan 07 to May 08, I assisted college students in the areas of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, differential equations and linear algebra.
Teaching Style
Throughout my tutoring experience, I noticed oftentimes, students wouldn’t be able completely grasp the concepts the first time when I explained to them. To resolve this problem, I have learned that it is helpful to explain the process of solving the same problem from a different perspective or using a different method. Also, sometimes after I explain a problem to the student, to make sure that the student really understands the concept, I ask the student to explain the same problem back to me or to another student who is also confused about the same problem. As a tutor, I am patient, strict, considerate and I strive to make a difference in all of my students' lives.
