Experience Summary
I have been a teacher and tutor for over 15 years, specifically in private schools. The first student I tutored (as an elementary student) has graduated from dental school and has his own practice! My background in science and math, as well as human psychology, enables me not only to teach the curriculum, but also to understand those academic areas which are common roadblocks to many students. I am motivated to bring knowledge, model tenacity and give hope to my students. It is a thrill to help a student who is struggling with a subject and see him/her become comfortable and begin to enjoy the academic journey.
Teaching Style
I have tutored students both with and without learning disabilities. In my 15 years as a teacher in elementary and high school, and as a tutor, I have covered math through algebra and geometry,biology, geography/history, chemistry and physics. I am capable of tutoring college level courses in math and science, too. I believe each person is capable of learning, and that a report card can be improved by learning 'how to learn'. I use manipulatives, white boards, games, and music to tap into those areas of the brain that best respond to learning the material. Tutoring time should be a time for children/adults to anticipate with joy, not fear. Bringing out your academic best is my number one goal for you and/or your child.
