Experience Summary
I am a graduate from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. In addition to requirements for my major, I took mathematics courses as my electives. I also attended a full-fledged International Baccalaureate school prior to university, including the middle years program and primary years program. At the IB school I also studied French for 13 years. I have tutored middle school and high school students over the past 6 years, primarily in mathematics and sometimes French. Most recently I have tutored algebra II, pre-calculus and helped a student prepare for the SATs. This past year I helped a student in algebra II bring their grade up from a C to a B.
Teaching Style
I have a passion for tutoring and sharing my love of math. I believe anyone can perform better when it comes to math. Sometimes it is not a matter of the student being incapable of learning the material, but needing it to be presented to them in different ways to find the method most suitable for them. I believe the greatest issue for students is the material being explained too quickly in classes. However, I am very patient and easy going. I take my time to test the student to make sure they understand and are capable of reproducing the material they just learned before continuing onwards. I am also willing to put in my share of the work outside tutoring sessions, such as preparing practice exams.
