Experience Summary
I did not graduate from high school but I knew I had to and could put myself through college. It was during this time in my life that I began to appreciate the importance of education. It was after this time that my past situation aided me in landing my first job in education. I was offered a position to teach non-traditional high school students who were just like I used to be. Honestly, I never had thought about becoming a teacher and really did not want to accept the job. After three months of teaching I was in love. I could relate to the students that, for whatever reason, were struggling. When I teach, I never feel like I am working. I have since moved in to the public sector of education and have found just as much happiness as ever.
Teaching Style
I believe that through education comes the ability to better individual lives and the society that they live in. My style of teaching stems from an establishment of mutual respect and trust between the educator and student. There should also be mutual respect and trust between the students. No student should be left out and all should be treated equally. I feel it is the responsibility of the educator to provide a safe environment for optimal learning and a sense of belonging. The atmosphere of the classroom should provide the sense of importance that every student is appreciated and that every student can succeed.
