Experience Summary
I have dedicated the last six years to studying chemistry at the College of William & Mary, first as an undergraduate student and then as a Master's student. I obtained a BS in Chemistry in the spring of 2009 and, having finished my graduate research, have moved back to Asheville to finish writing my thesis in order to complete my Master's in chemistry. In addition to my extensive coursework, I have three years of chemical research experience. Over the past three years, I have successfully tutored a number of students in high school and college in a wide-range of chemistry related subjects, from general chemistry all the way through physical chemistry and more advanced subjects.
Teaching Style
I believe that one-on-one instruction is extremely important in the educational process. The large lecture format currently utilized in both high school and college often discourages students from asking questions. This system also prevents teachers from tailoring their lessons to the specific needs of their students. In my tutoring sessions, I work hard to provide a comfortable environment in which the student doesn't have to worry about embarrassing him/herself. I take pride in my ability to re-frame the information to tailor the lesson to the student's learning style and any specific questions he or she might have.
