Experience Summary
Applicable to this job, I remember my high school years and the processes I had during my English and Composition assignments. I completed an English Bachelor’s degree, with three different areas of focus, Professional Writing, Creative Writing, and Composition. I am finishing a Master’s degree in Rhetoric and Composition. I am on temporary, as-needed employment at Pearson Education Services as a scorer. Finally, I tutored, assisted, and participated in the lives of my fellow students. My experience has allowed me to have an understanding of theory, practice, and rhetoric and solve any personal compositional and academic concerns that have come up, and I look forward to doing so again at this job of tutoring.
Teaching Style
My missionary experiences informed me of one idea: people are important and they have to be considered person-by-person. Those experiences have led me to take a teaching philosophy and teaching practice that is person-centric. I work to understand the rhetorics, theories, practices, and experiences that inform each student and the classroom as a whole. In practice, this manifests in extensive talking and co-writing (on daily assignments) to assess where exactly these students are at and how I can help them. I believe that each student, each individual, has the desire and capacity to learn, so I am constantly working to demystify composition so they can truly see how language can inform them and make their lives better.
