Experience Summary
For the last two years I have enjoyed working at the Brigham Young University -Hawaii Reading Writing Center as a tutor and center manager. My passion has been to help others learn and gain a better understanding of the world around them. At BYUH, my area of expertise was in English reading and writing, techniques, style, improvement, grammar and overall understanding of the English language. I have had over ten years of Spanish education and six years of French language studies, which have given me maximum grammar understanding and language proficiency. I also have experience in tutoring Spanish, Math up to Pre-Calc, French, mentoring in high school (Peers Encouraging Abstinent Kids PEAK, Freshman Connection, National Honors Society).
Teaching Style
I am very passionate about seeing someone suddenly gain understanding about a specific concept. I strive to understand first the learning style of any student and create new ways to connect to them via that learning style. I emphasize communication and understanding questions and doubts of the student to maximize learning and retention, and I make learning fun and relevant. I am very patient and easy to relate to, and I try to be a friend before anything else; I am a tutor, they already have a teacher, and I specialize in supplementing what they know with what they need in addition. My goal is to help each student not only master their current assignments, but learn key concepts that will change their lives.
