Experience Summary
During graduate school, I was a substitute teacher, taught a teaching writing practicum at UAB, and was a reading tutor. I was a student teacher for 8th grade language arts, and then I was a real teacher for 6th grade English. I have taken 18 hours of graduate level English classes, and this is more than is required to earn a Master's degree in secondary English education. I also have a bachelor's degree in psychology from Samford University, and my background in psychology is also useful as I help students learn.
Teaching Style
I think differentiated instruction is the best way to teach. This essentially means changing up the instruction in an effort to allow all students to learn. Because students have different learning styles, teachers should try to teach the material in new, different, and creative ways. Teachers should consider the way that the particular child learns best (ex. auditory, visual, performing, ect.)as well as brain hemisphere dominance. Teachers should cater instruction to match the needs of individual learners.
