Experience Summary
I have 25 years of experience as a classroom teacher. I have also taught students in small group and 1 to 1 settings. I have a passion for education. My current teaching certificates are in Elementary Education, Physical Education, Remedial Reading, History K-12, and Social Studies K-12. I have worked in private schools, public schools, and the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Europe. I have taught pre-school head start, Title 1 remedial reading, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classrooms, and K-8 grade physical education. I currently substitute in all subjects and all grade levels. I also volunteer as a tutor for conversational English to foreign born nationals living in the United States.
Teaching Style
I often work with students who struggle learning in the conventional classroom. I love to see my students achieve and be excited about what they accomplish. My tutoring style is to listen to the student to discover the root of the problem that is blocking learning. Understanding the student, their frustrations, and their learning style is crucial to assisting them. Discovering what methods work best with each student can become key. Making the subject real and applicable to their world also brings great results. I never under estimate the effect of enthusiasm and a since of self-confidence to boost learning, and strive to bring both to the experience.
