Experience Summary
During my undergrad I spent a year in Peru, South America learning and studying Spanish. When I returned from Peru, I completed a Bachelor's Degree in Religious Studies with a minor in Spanish. At present I am completing a Master's Degree at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. I currently work at Huntington Learning Center tutoring elementary and middle-schoolers in math and verbal skills and help high school students prepare for the ACT. I also teach pre-K students Latin at Prospect Latin School. I also currently tutor a 9th grader attending DeSales Catholic High School, assisting him with study skills, math, science, literature, and history.
Teaching Style
One of the greatest joys in my life in teaching. Previous teachers influenced my life immensely and likewise, I want to influence the next generation. I have a passion for reading and books, and I want to pass along that passion for others. I tend to be laid-back and easy-going in my teaching style, but I keep my students focused when they get distracted or begin daydreaming. Learning is more caught than taught. If I am excited about a subject, my students will get excited about it also. Setting higher expectations for students and allowing my students to rise to the challenge. Children/young people need support and encouragement to enhance learning, especially when they do not get these at home.
