Experience Summary
I have volunteered in middle school, high school and college ministry with River City Church in Jacksonville over the last four years. I spent a year in middle school and a year in high school ministry before I committed my time to college ministry. Teaching and connecting with middle school students is very different than with high school students, but no less beneficial. I graduated from the University of North Florida with my Bachelors in Fine Art in December 2010. Since then I have been substitute teaching with Kelly Educational Services in various schools in Duval County. Over the years I've taught bible studies, English, Art, Art History and Math.
Teaching Style
I most enjoy working with middle and high school students. Usually, they are able to break down complex problems and think abstractly. When I work one on one with a student I am patient to understand where they are in relation to their struggle in comprehending a particular concept. I tend to go back and break down the concepts into singular parts and go through each step with the student so that it will later stick with them. Encouraging them along the way and celebrating their understanding of each step in the process boosts their confidence to further complete the problem, or task, at hand.
