Experience Summary
Ever since I was young, I have always found joy in mathematics. Number puzzles, real life applications, and the teaching of math are all fascinating and enjoyable to me. I studied mathematics and economics in college so I could work on more advanced quantitative problems for a career. I later returned to school to get a Master's degree in Operations Research, a mathematical modeling discipline. While I tutored some as a undergraduate student, I really began teaching and tutoring mathematics during the past two years. I've worked with various levels of students, from middle schoolers to college seniors. I am comfortable teaching any level of math up through calculus, including statistics.
Teaching Style
Practice, practice, practice. Math is not learned by watching, it is learned by doing. Some types of problems can be learned after only a few examples, others take much more time and patience. My role as a tutor is help guide students through a problem while doing as little of the actual calculations as possible. I try to make my students see that many problems, while different in appearance, are actually the same as ones they've already solved before. I always strive to get that "ah ha!" moment from my students, where they understand not only how to do a problem, but why we used that method to solve it in the first place.
