Experience Summary
As a college tutor I worked with ESL students in writing. My English and MLIS degrees help with reading developement, research, literature selection, and writing quality. I have also home schooled my elementary age children in all academic subjects. Currently, I am volunteering at a local elementary school in the STAR program tutoring young children in reading.
Teaching Style
I have a daughter that is hearing impaired and has a langauge processing disorder. I also have a teenage son that is extremely bright, but a little lazy at school work. Teaching and watching them learn has shown me all children can learn, but they do it in different ways and at different speeds. I am a kind tutor, but diligent in making sure all the work gets done and we are moving forward as quickly as the child can. I want them to meet or surpass grade level and feel good about themselves and the work they are doing.
