Experience Summary
I have several years experience volunteering for the HOSTS (Helping One Student To Succeed) Program, affiliated with the Troy School District (Michigan). I have received their “Outstanding Mentor” Award 3 years straight. I have formal education in Early Childhood Education at Oakland University, where I received my Bachelors degree in 2005. I am currently working on Master’s in Training and Development (also at OU). Professionally, I last worked as a Corporate Trainer, educating adults, for Chrysler Corp. for 5 years. Personally, I love to read and write, I’ve been fortunate enough to have had some of my work published. I am very well equipped to tutor/mentor in the area of Language Arts.
Teaching Style
My personality lends itself nicely to the art of teaching, both adults and children. Thankfully, my educational and professional background supports my ability to tutor in all areas of elementary education, particularly Language Arts. As a young student, I was terrified of mathematics. I carry with me the humility I felt at that time, being frustrated and falling behind, when I approach each individual child and their challenge. From my experience I know how helpful tutoring can be and I take great pride in being able to help a child overcome an educational obstacle. Lastly, I always make sure the child I’m helping knows I believe in them. They CAN do it, and I’m here to help.
