Experience Summary
As an avid seeker of lifelong knowledge, I know and value the importance of education and knowledge. My first tutoring job was in the 5th grade. I tutored a 2nd grader in math and English. It was very rewarding and I enjoyed seeing my student's face light up every time he understood a concept I taught him. I am also the eldest of 14 children and have experience helping my younger siblings with their homework. I worked with children who came from abusive homes in college and tutored them in English. I have been looking for an opportunity to once again tutor children because I enjoy helping children learn. Tutoring is very rewarding and I love the opportunity to help a child.
Teaching Style
I have a very hands-on approach, using real life examples that children will understand. For example, if there's a math problem involving subtraction, I would use Cheerios cereal or coins. I would say something like "Let's say I gave you 20 Cheerios and took away 5 of them, how may Cheerios would you have left?" I believe that we all learn in different ways and it just takes patience and observation to understand the ways in which each child learns. I know that children can reach their full potential if they are given the chance to prove themselves and if they are surrounded by people who believe in them. Positivity, rewards, patience, understanding and compassion are the tools needed to help children learn.
