Experience Summary
I have always loved children, and have never wanted to be anything other than a teacher. I taught a total of 30 years, with 23 of those years being in public school. The other 7 were spent operating and teaching in a private school. I have a fine arts degree as well as being certified to teach K-8. The subject I enjoy most is reading, and that is the area in which I tutored. I am also able to help in any other language arts subjects. One of my strengths is the relationship I have with my students. I believe in them, love them and encourage them. I enjoy being with them!
Teaching Style
In my classroom I had activity with structure. I encouraged my students to think for themselves to solve problems rather than depending on me to think for them. They were allowed to have the freedom to make mistakes, and to have courage to try new material. I cushioned them by allowing them to have time to think, to go at their own speed, and to work hands on with learning partners. We had opportunities each day to work as a team, and we built personal responsibility for homework, daily assignments, classroom behavior and citizenship. I had individual time with each student every day, as well as presenting visual lessons to the entire group. Each child felt secure and valued.
