Experience Summary
I have over twenty years of experience teaching reading. I completed all of the Houghton/Mifflin Language Arts training sessions that taught California teachers how to be expert Language Arts teachers. I have also attended many Language Arts training sessions through my school district and county education offices. I also ran Language Arts and ESL Intervention programs at my school. I have a B.S. and a Master's degree in Education, and I am CLAD Certified. I love teaching and get along very well with children. I respect them and I know how to inspire them to do their best work.
Teaching Style
I believe in "Assertive Discipline". This style uses lots of verbal praise, rewards and incentives. It keeps learning on a positive, moving forward track. This style of teaching is never negative. It encourages learning through engaging, age-appropriate, research-based, fun activities. It starts by assessing each child to determine the student's strengths and weaknesses. Then the appropriate materials are gathered to address each area of need. Tests, charts, diagrams, folders, manipulatives, and many other electronic learning tools are used to track progress and build confidence in each student. All children can learn if they are properly motivated, diagnosed, and given the appropriate learning materials.
