Experience Summary
In addition to the administrative experiences listed in my resume, my rapport with the people I serve has always been such that I am seen in their eyes as a 'big brother'. I have developed advanced communication skills and people-skills over the years, and am considered by all who know me as a very friendly person. I have trained mentors in para-professional counseling for many years. I have also taught languages as a volunteer. At one point in my career, I was given the opportunity to volunteer teach in Paraguay. What a wonderful cross-cultural experience that was for me! It was there that I learned the Spanish Language and I have had many opportunities to use Spanish ever since.
Teaching Style
My style is one of 're-packaging' concepts into easy to handle segments. Outlining is a very useful tool in this process. In addition, I use a 'research yesterday's work' approach, and a 'search the index' approach for leading a student to find the appropriate answer. Patience is the most encouraging principle for creating the environment needed for learning. Many have told me that I have a wonderful way with listening and explaining. My own children have shared this with me as well.
