Experience Summary
As a high school teacher, I facilitated the instruction of approximately 100 students in Chemistry in accordance with Massachusetts Learning Standards. Developed and implemented course curriculum for the Forensic Science course, including labs featuring gun shot residue testing, urinalysis, and DNA electrophoresis . Supervised the after-school chemistry tutoring program for all high school students. Additionally, I served as a volunteer ESL tutor for one year.
Teaching Style
I will be upfront, I was known as a firm, but fair, teacher. I see science as a field primarily learned through doing, and I enjoy performing science demonstrations with my students to help illustrate new concepts. At the same time, I expect students to attempt to solve problems on their own, as opposed to simply memorizing how I solve problems. While it is sometimes difficult at first, I find it gives them confidence to approach future concepts and ideas both in and out of the specific science course.
