Experience Summary
For the last seven years, I have taught and tutored English to adults who speak other languages. In the last two years, I have added tutoring students in grades 3-12. While teaching English as a Second Language at a local college, I was a lead lab instructor for two years. Students work with me on pronunciation, reading, writing and grammar. They also work on improving their test taking skills. I have a Masters Degree in the area of Child Development and Family Life, and a Bachelors Degree in the areas of History and English.
Teaching Style
We do not all learn to speak, read and write languages in the same way. Some of us learn by mostly hearing or saying; some of us learn by mostly seeing and looking; and some of us learn by mostly doing, using touch and moving parts of our bodies or things. I use all three ways to learn when helping others improve their English. I use hearing, seeing and doing. I check what students learn in one way with the other two ways of learning. There is a name for this kind of teaching. It is called the neuro-linguistic approach to teaching English.
