Experience Summary
I love learning and the precision arts such as mathematics. This has driven me to begin in a computer career. I spent almost two decades applying my computer skills. Learning has never stopped for me.
But then I love the outdoors and working with my hands. I have taught myself the carpentry trade and the concrete business. I started out by sitting down with the manuals and memorized the building codes before I built my own house.
Recently I applied mathematics to a roof I was building. Simple, yes, but not everyone would take the time to lay it out on paper and get accurate measurements. I hope one day that I will be able to combine mathematics with real life applications as I home school my own son.
Teaching Style
What I have discovered about myself is that I learn differently from other people. I am the kind of person who prefers to set aside that assembly instruction manual and put together that Christmas toy by laying out the pieces in an orderly fashion. There is so much pleasure in problem solving. I learn by asking myself questions. I have little patience for mundane drills and memorization if they can be avoided.
Each child is different. It is meaningless to say that a child is intelligent. There are many kinds of intelligences. Some children are more intelligent in memorization. Others are intelligent in solving problems. It is best to discover the child's strengths and weaknesses and adapt a program to each and every child.
