Experience Summary
Throughout my entire undergraduate education, I tutored other students in multiple areas of mathematics, which was highly recommended as a math major, but I continued to tutored after I changed my major to finance one semester before graduation. I began teaching algebra level 1 and 2 to high schoolers before taking a job in finance. I currently work for that same company and have obtained my MBA in the meantime. I have been tutoring intermittently since giving up teaching and have always loved helping others find a love of math.
Teaching Style
I believe that too many students find math challenging because of the way they are taught. Too many teachers have made it not fun and frustrating and are unwilling to explain the "whys", which can make a big difference to a child. This may be due to lack of understanding on the teacher's part, but I believe strongly that a solid education, especially in all areas of math, will help with problem solving and many other "real life" situations that can arise. Because many students learn visually, I've always tried to incorporate varying levels of geometry in my lessons. It is also helpful to provide examples to many students, so that is always a goal of mine.
