Experience Summary
I've been a full time substitute teacher in the Martin County School District since 2007. During 2008-2009, I was a permanent substitute at Stuart Middle School. During 2009-2010, I was given a five-month assignment as an ESE facilitator. In that capacity, I tutored students one on one, administered and modified their assessments, wrote progress reports and took part in conferences with their parents. I’m regularly given VE and gifted classroom assignments and have established a reputation as an effective educator.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is a combination of humor, question and answer, life experience, and history. I treat my students as adults. I follow the road, but go with the flow; no battle plan survives the first shot. There are many paths to learning. I never assume mine is the only way. Teaching is as much about learning as it is teaching. I listen to what my students have to say, and respect the opinions they have. I value honesty and set an example by admitting what I don’t know. My job is to discover, inspire and develop wisdom. Every teacher has been surprised by some brilliant insight expressed by a "low" performing student. It happens everyday. I’m convinced every student has a particular wisdom we just have to find, and encourage it.
