Experience Summary
I am a current student with Duquesne University working on a dual masters degree in Corporate Communications and Multimedia Technology. I am a 2007 graduate of Capital University and hold a bachelors degree in Mathematics with a minor in communications. I completed 3 years of coursework in Chemical Engineering before deciding to switch to Mathematics and am therefore well versed in both the maths and sciences. I tutored at the college level while a student and volunteered as a middle school and high school mathematics tutor with North Hills Youth Ministry for aproximately 2 years.
Teaching Style
Math teachers are notorious for being vague or teaching solely from text. I believe understanding mathematics does not necessarily make you fit to teach it. I have had great success adapting to a student's language and using analogies to make math come to life. It's a fact that no human likes an activity if they are not good at it, attitude is half the battle; if I can help my student to get better at math, I know they will stop disliking the subject and thereby learn more. I have been asked why I'm not a math teacher, the answer is, I believe I was meant to make an impact on an individual basis and that is my goal in being a tutor, to make a difference!
