Experience Summary
While attending the University of Chicago (2003-2007), I completed a rigorous curriculum characterized by both advanced coursework in mathematics and the social sciences. Each year leading up to graduation, I served as a mathematics tutor within the Cook County School district. I specialized in Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. Following my return to Southern California after graduation, I accepted a position as a bilingual instructional assistant within the Saddleback Valley School district. Within this capacity, I assist students with Algebra and Calculus in both Spanish and English. Furthermore, having studied abroad extensively in Italy during college, I am proficient in both Italian and Latin as well.
Teaching Style
In that I have been tutoring consistently for the past seven years, I believe I have developed some highly effective techniques for enabling each individual student to reach his or her potential. My first mission upon initiating tutoring with a new student is to identify his or her particular personality and background. Once an understanding is developed between tutor and student, the more theoretical aspects of the student's studies can be approached. Lastly, I find it essential to engage the student in activities related to his or her studies that are genuinely interesting and relevant to the real world.
