Experience Summary
I started by tutoring other students in trigonometry and calculus in high school. In college I continued to tutor other students in a variety of courses including general logic, chemistry, physics and English. I have an extensive background in physical sciences: BS in Chemistry, extended coursework in geology and a minor in physics. When my children started in school, I would go to their elementary school classes and teach basic physical science concepts. I determined class plans and did a series of activities with my son’s second grade class discussing molecules, states of matter, density and finishing with a discussion of geology. As a professional I have trained peers individually and in groups in a variety of subjects.
Teaching Style
I am a very flexible teacher. Over the years I have tutored small children, teens and peers in a wide variety of subjects. I am known for my ability to make difficult concepts easy to understand and the way I make dry material interesting. I prefer to work with people individually so that I can match my teaching style to their learning style. I have worked with dyslexic students and gifted students. I have worked with students that needed to work through problems slowly with lots of guidance and students that prefer to figure it out and come to me with specific questions.
