Experience Summary
I have a deep passion for learning that has led me to the path of guidance for children today. I have always loved reading and writing, taking AP English classes in high school. I graduated from UCF with a BS in Psychology and have worked in the mental health field. In a residential treatment facility, I aided children to learn new behaviors/techniques to succeed at school and home. In school I took advanced research method classes and am inclined to scientific research and the field of science in general. I have tutored students in English and math, but also enjoy mentoring in social studies. I also have studied Spanish for 4 years and would feel comfortable tutoring the language at an elementary level.
Teaching Style
I would describe my personal teaching style as sympathetic and demonstrative. In a one-on-one tutoring situation, I like to first lend a sympathetic ear to find out what a student knows and what they need help with. By allowing a pupil tell me what they know, I can then see where the work needs to be done to help them improve. I would say that I like to help students learn by showing them the steps or thought process that will lead them in the right direction. I like to confirm step by step that they understood how I got there. Lastly, I have them work the problems on their own to ensure they feel comfortable. Activities and practice coupled with patience and personal tailored guidance is the key to a student’s ability to excel.
