I got my math Diploma when I was 16. I was tutoring math during high school to my classmates and my friends. I am in college right now but I still teach math to my sister who is in 9th grade, and my mom who is in college right now. I have experience of teaching math but I never really get paid for that and I was not like a real employee.

I entered Virginia Tech as an honors math and physics student and graduated in three years with my BS in physics. At the moment I am trying to decide if I would like to go to grad school to continue on to something else, hopefully with math and physic as at least peripherally relevant. I have never taught a class and have tutored in only in a limited capacity. I however was apart of Virginia Tech's first Physics education class and program and found that I really actually enjoy teaching for teaching's sake. I hope that my limited experience won't scare people away; I am very passionate about these subjects and I would enjoy building up my experience and resume so that I can become an even better educator.
My major complaint with the current pedagogy of STEM fields is there focus on teaching students to be able to produce answers so a slew of canned and frankly uninteresting pro ... read more

My comments on tutoring Calculus I : 20 years experience

Over 20 years private tutor for the PSAT, SAT, ACT, GMAT, MCAT, LSAT, ASVAB, TEAS, Math, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, statistics, research methods, and psychology for all ages and grade levels I have a PhD with 20 years experience of college teaching Statistics & Psychology Research Methods & Statistics at University of South Florida for 10 years and am now a Professor Faculty member teaching Statistics and PsychoLogy at Keiser University. I have also taught Psychology as a Professor at St. Leo University for 8 years.
Students in the classroom and those tutored privately all Comment that my teaching style makes learning and mastering each subject so much easier than they have found from other teachers. Students are taught learning skills that apply to their current subject and they can apply these skills to other subjects.

Teaching science is not about teaching facts. Science is based on theories, which evolve through the process of discovery. Thus, it is important to teach a student not what to think, but how to think. With little formal teaching experience, my philosophy draws on what I have liked in my teachers. First, and foremost, is enthusiasm. A professor who is clearly excited by the subject is more likely to spark excitement in the students. Second, it is important to relate to the students on a more personal level. This needs to occur in both directions. I believe the students need to see me as more than a teacher providing the information, but as a scientist and a person with my own views.

We educate students into the discipline of their choice in order to facilitate the achievement of their goals. The students in my classroom have a dream and that is the reason they are there, to pursue that dream. As an educator, my mission is to act as the facilitator of that dream. I help my students reach the goals that they have set for themselves, usually by translating textbook knowledge into day-to-day understandable language, by turning academe into an approachable field, and by adding my own personal experiences when applicable. My job as a facilitator can be accomplished through the exercise of two different approaches: The first is the old school avenue in which the student validates his/her worth through a conventional evaluation outcome (grade). This approach I may add is the easier of the two. The second approach is one that presents education to students as an excit ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my education, I have excelled in every subject, particularly science and math. During college, I frequently studied in groups and assisted many classmates who were struggling. Some even began coming to me with questions instead of going to the professor because my explanations were more easily understood. For two years during college, I served as a tutor for the Athletics Department. While I more often tutored chemistry, I also tutored biology and math. During graduate school, I was selected as a Teaching Assistant for a Chemical Oceanography class. I also worked for two summers as a Science Mentor for an oceanography camp designed for students entering 9th grade. This included classroom teaching as well as teaching during field trips. In addition, I worked for one year as a Teaching Assistant/Tutor for a college-level general chemistry class.

During my years in High School, I participated in various programs that involved tutoring students in reading and language arts. I have also tutored friends and family throughout the years in reading, math, and history. As a current student at the University of South Florida I help fellow classmates with homework as often as I can. I currently hold my AA from Manatee Community College and will graduate from USF with my BA in December of 2010.
I love teaching and working with children of all ages, especially at the elementary and middle school level. I know that my job is not done until the student I am tutoring fully understands the subject matter. I believe students learn best through exploring the material at their own pace and applying life experiences to the material at hand. When I am teaching students I am both patient and considerate, as I know that the material can be diffi ... read more

As a USF graduate I worked diligently at achieving the best education I could. I completed my Natural Science degree at USF Tampa and then went on to complete my Teacher Certificate Program at St. Pete College. I have a strong science background and excellent teaching experience. For twenty-plus years I have worked with youth and children in education. Most recently I taught three years of middle school science under my Florida Teaching Certificate. I also coached volleyball and computer. I have extensive math and science college course work to supplement my experience.
The greatest contribution to children and youth is to help them get a good education. I love seeing students grasp new concepts and grow in their understanding of math and science. There are many different needs in the classroom and I believe I have a deep understanding of those needs and the ability to meet each o ... read more

I have a strong passion for learning which has developed into a desire to teach all I have learned. I know that everyone learns differently, and I believe I can succeed in helping anyone obtain knowledge in the areas of chemistry and biology. I am very devoted and put 100% into everything I do.
I am very dedicated to the science fields, and I have a strong knowledge of chemistry and biology. My GPA was 3.4, and I did very well in organic chemistry, biochemistry and biology. Although I have not professionally tutored, I spent several hours a week throughout my college years helping other students and forming study groups for tests and exams. I have natural people skills, so I feel I can relate to almost anyone and help them to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love educating children and adults and strongly believe in lifelong learning. Since I have taught at several levels and even in different countries, I use different teaching techniques. My goal is to help the learner to get the best education possible.
I have taught for 20+ years in Germany (mainly Math, English and Reading) and for 4 years in Kansas City, MO. There I taught all core subjects: Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. Right now I have got several part time jobs: I work as a sub at a colligiate high school (all subjects), I will teach German at the Edison College in Fort Myers (Continuing Education) and I tutor for a private company doing SES tutoring - Reading and Math. I have prepared young people to do their GED, too. The subjects I did there were Math, Science and American History.

I am a chemical engineer by profession and in the teaching field. I was a substitute teacher and tutor for 1 yr, then a high school teacher handling chemistry and general science for another year before i became a college instructor handling chemistry, physics and math for 15 yrs. Being a sales representative and at the same time the manager/cashier of a family business before my teaching career, I would say I have best people skills and can handle people of different levels and ages. I love teaching because it is a very challenging and fulfilling job, especially the joy when any of my former students will remember me as an effective, understanding and funny mentor from whom they learned a lot of things.
In my experience, the best and most effective way of students to learn is by discovery method and hands-on learning by letting them develop their potentials of acquiring and applyi ... read more

My teaching style varied depending on the students abilities in my classes. When whole group or direct instruction was needed, I utilized it; if hands-on instruction was needed, I utilized that strategy. I am a firm believer that using a multi-sensory approach is the way to go in any instrucitonal program. Since all children learn differently, then the use of different modalities to deliver instruction will benefit more children. Most of all, patience is required. Because no matter what strategy and mode of instruction used, patience and guidance is needed for the child to achieve to his potential

As a granddaughter of an English teacher, I've learned the importance of education and passing the knowledge. I have earned an AA in Computer Engineering and will earn a BA in Journalism in May 2007. These studies have expanded my knowledge in areas such as math, computer systems, English, writing, editing and study skills. I have tutored students grades K-adults in all of these subjects.
I believe students learn best when they can relate to the subject. It is easier to teach a subject when the student can see the problem in their own perspective. I've realized during past tutoring sessions that children have a creative and fun perspective on almost everything. Making learning fun and interactive works well with children because of their difficulties concentrating. With adults, putting learning into perspective based on everyday life makes the information more obtainable and easi ... read more
