CPA Makes Accounting Understandable

CPA since 1991. Over 2 years private tutoring with accounting students from ASU, SCC, Rio Salado College, University of Phoenix, and other schools. Some students are local residents, but most of them are foreign students from the United Arab Emirates. Also, 25 years of full-time, hands-on accounting manager experience in construction, service, and retail companies. I am careful to provide what the students want. Because private tutoring can be costly, some students just want help with the homework. Hello! I started tutoring two years ago and I love it! After spending my career working as a CPA and Corporate Controller and Job-Cost Accountant, I found tutoring! This allows me to put my vast experience to work and assist students to understand Accounting and Math. I also spent some time working and volunteering at my children's school. During this time, I worked in the Library and also listened to scores of students practice their reading. I'm a certified Air Force Instructor with two years of experience as a Unit Training Manager. I have 3 years of experience teaching adults how to build computers and install/configure operating systems and applications.
I find that teaching works best if you tailor the material to your audience - i.e. you don't want to lose them OR bore them. Use what they know as a foundation to build on to teach new concepts. If material is difficult or unfamiliar to your class it's important to be prepared in advance with several approaches to get the material across. Review material periodically to reinforce confidence in the students and always make sure they have a firm grasp on material before moving on.
