My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I have been a special education teacher for most of my teaching career specializing in dyslexia. I am a trained, certified dyslexia specialist and have been working with students with dyslexia for 8 years. I feel that the program that I use is very beneficial because it is a multisensory approach to teaching students to read. I also teach study skills so that my students become successful in school.

I have been in Education for 19 years, but have been a teacher much longer than that! I have been involved in teaching somehow since I was a young girl, working as a Sunday School teacher or as a teacher for Vacation Bible School, as a camp counselor for the YMCA Daycare program and as a tutor while in college. I have been a certified teacher for 19 years, spending most of those years in Special Education. I started my career as a substitute teacher in Northeast Ohio, moved to Texas to teach Special Education as a resource teacher, moved to teaching third grade and then back to Special Education as an Intervention Specialist working with small groups of students in all grade levels. My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : Over the past year, I used the Wilson Fundations Program with a student and it has helped them become a better reader

I have been working with Elementary aged children for over 7 years. I have had many different teaching experiences working with grades K-2. I have tutored primarily in reading with an emphasis on guided reading strategies, phonemic awareness, and word building. In the area of math, I have experience with the programs: Calendar math, Investigations, and Singapore Math. For Writing, I have used the Lucy Culkins Program as well as 6 Traits writing. I enjoy working with students to help them gain confidence and find their passion in learning.
When I first meet my students, I want them to feel comfortable with me and what we will be doing. I have an innate instinct to teach and a drive that brings me great satisfaction from teaching.
