A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored my peers throughout high school, and I enjoy sharing my knowledge of mathematics with others. During high school, I scored a perfect score of 800 on both SAT II Math Level 2 and Korean. I am currently attending Normandale with a major in Liberal Arts with Emphasis in Mathematics. My comments on tutoring Geometry : For the last 12 years I have tutored children between the ages of 5 and 18 in math, algebra, and geometry.

I hold a BA in foreign languages (Spanish, English) from La Sorbonne, Paris France. As well as a Master in International Business from Paris, and an MBA in finance from the University of Illinois. My comments on tutoring Geometry : As a tutor in the college-prep after-school program Upward Bound,I helped students with Geometry problems for 7 years, and know where students tend to stumble.

I start by giving a diagnostic test to assess each student's proficiency in the basics of Arithmetic and Algebra: fractions, decimals, percentages and the interconversion between them,and the rules of working with signed numbers. This approach stems from the notion that without these basics, Math is an uphill climb for most students. I place more emphasis on full work than answers.
I taught college-level Plant Science for 14 years. I spent 7 years as a tutor of Math and Science at the college-prep after-school program Upward bound, helping students with homework and preparing them for the ACT and the SAT. My comments on tutoring Geometry : I tutored 9th and 10th grade high school students in Geometry for 5 hours per week for 6 months. I excel at math and love helping students gain a better understanding of the subject.

I try to get my students to find the answer for themselves by asking them questions. Students need to come to an understanding of their material and that won't happen if I continually give them the answers. I'm also very patient with my students. If they don't grasp a concept or topic that we're working on, I will continue to explain it to them in different ways until it makes sense.
I have been tutoring students for about 5 years. I started when I was a junior in high school. My first experiences tutoring were through the National Honor Society.
