Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.
Web manager and usability analyst as well as instructor. I have been asked at various jobs to teach training classes to my peers because of my ability to deliver an easy to understand lesson. I've been told I am very good at explaining a topic that someone has no experience with at all. I am on contract with NC States Computer Training Unit.

A Little Bit About Me...

For the past two years, I have been working as an adjunct instructor and tutor in mathematics and computer information systems for a local Community College. This experience has been so fulfilling, that I am diligently pursuing a career change from Information Technology professional to teaching. I also taught mathematics for one year at a private school.
Students generally perform better with hands-on practice. I provide multiple opportunities for hands-on and guided practice as time permits. Associate new concepts to familiar ones. Our memories are largely associative in nature. Therefore, providing connections from new concepts back to well established ones increases our retention and recall. This is especially important in building up understanding in mathematics. Provide relevant examples. A student who is actively enaged in the lesson will learn more.

A Little Bit About Me...

I teach with the assumption that everyone can learn anything. At the core of my teaching philosophy is the mental model or concept. Consequently, my first goal is to determine if the student has a mental model of the subject matter. If not, I will guide them in discovering a useful one using their existing models and their preferred input mode (tactile, visual, etc.). If a student does have a mental model then I will test its accuracy using the standard procedures approved and or recommended by the institution of enrollment. Further encounters are then simply for reinforcement until the student is confident.
Over several years as a teacher, tutor, and teaching assistant I have had the privilege of refining my teaching strategy. For example, as a physics tutor, I coached a high school senior who was intimidated with the subject how to master it using a simple reproducible foundation ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I developed some tricks and techniques on my own which have really helped me in solving problems very fast. I will be happy to share some with the student if he/she is willing to learn. The student needs to be hard working because I am not there to give them a magic formula to solve problems. They will be able to learn to apply their analytical abilities and solve problems with proper reasoning. I have rarely used textbooks in Math, the only reason I used books was to find more problems to solve.
I am a highly skilled math student, with a degree in computer science from Clemson University. I have about 2 years of private tutoring experience in Math where I taught the student from Freshman to Junior year in high school. I really love sharing my ideas with students and help them learn the subject efficiently.

It is my pleasure to be of assistance to any student in any subject matter. I love being able to help others in subjects where they are weak. I have a pretty flexible and open schedule and I am readily available to assist your child. I am very understanding, easy to get along with, and persistent when it comes to working with students. I believe that students learn best by doing, therefore there will be a lot of independent thinking and problem solving. My goal is to produce a more confident, educated, and self-sufficient student.
