My comments on tutoring Government : I hold a Masters in Mathematics and a Bachelors in Molecular Biology. My teaching certification is EC-6 and just added ESL certified.

I believe all children learn at there own style and pace and that we as teachers need to find what works for the child and help them build on their strengths in a positive way.
I am a certified teacher and have been teaching for 8 years in elementary school. I began my teaching career by accident leaving the law enforcement field to work initially part-time as a teacher. However I really enjoyed working with children and found that I was good at it. Over the years it has been nice to hear both parents, teachers, and children comment that I have made a difference in their lives and that I have helped make them the young people that they are shaping to be. Many children and parents have said that while I was tough I have helped them stay in school and become A students. This motivates me to continue to do my best in my job and for the kids.

I have extensive work experience and knowledge in the areas of Adult Education and Literacy, teaching English as a Second Language, Math and Science. I would like to share my enthusiasm for these subjects, and education in general. My teaching experiences in Adult Education and Literacy at Northside ISD, San Antonio Texas have allowed me to work with students from diverse backgrounds. During my teaching positions, I developed many skills including curriculum development, written and verbal communication skills, and sensitivity for diverse cultures. In the classroom, I create a student-centered where students have an opportunity to work collaboratively and share their ideas with me in constructing the learning and teaching process, rather than a teacher-centered environment. I am an energetic and enthusiastic instructor, constantly interacting with students. I don’t want students to ... read more

UT-SAN ANTONIO STUDENT WITH DIVERSE SKILL SET

I tend to be really flexible and try to adapt my teaching style to the learning style of the student. For students who tend to be more tactile, I might have them handle apples if a math problem references apples. If a student is working on a writing assignment, I will offer suggestions (such as marking spelling/grammar/punction mistakes) and help them learn how to correct the errors so they won't continue to make the same errors in the future.

A Little Bit About Me...

Whether it is in front of a class of 40 or one-on-one, I have been endowed not only with the talent to teach, but also with the God-given ability to motivate. Most students hate my guts for the first week or two because I do not tolerate underachievement from anyone, including parents; but down the line the most frequent evaluation I receive is, “Mr. C, you are awesome.” There is no one who cannot be motivated to learn something well; and I always associate what must be learned with what a student's passion is or in what he/she is already interested. My students do not just learn the subject I teach. They learn how to learn and think "out of the box" and how to become a success.
My teaching credentials are in English and education. However... At the middle school level and high school level, I have taught/tutored English composition, geography, history ... read more

More About This Tutor...

My missionary experiences informed me of one idea: people are important and they have to be considered person-by-person. Those experiences have led me to take a teaching philosophy and teaching practice that is person-centric. I work to understand the rhetorics, theories, practices, and experiences that inform each student and the classroom as a whole. In practice, this manifests in extensive talking and co-writing (on daily assignments) to assess where exactly these students are at and how I can help them. I believe that each student, each individual, has the desire and capacity to learn, so I am constantly working to demystify composition so they can truly see how language can inform them and make their lives better.
Applicable to this job, I remember my high school years and the processes I had during my English and Composition assignments. I completed an English Bachelor’s degr ... read more
