I graduated from Arizona State University with a Liberal Arts degree. This enabled me to work at JCPenney, working my way up the ladder. I ended that career as a Department Manager/Merchandiser supervising up to 25 people. I continued my education at Eastern Washington University earning a teaching credential and did my student teaching in the 2nd grade. Since then I was a substitute teacher; taking on any task, then eventually working in my own classroom teaching 3-6 grade. I enjoy teaching all age groups. I especially like working with High School students.Initially, they can be quite a challenge to work with, but once they are engaged they are fully immersed in the topic! I like to be creative and interactive! I was a difficult High School student so I can relate to many that get bored with some topics. I really like to use transactional teaching methods. I introduce a subject and have discussions about the material rather than strictly lecturing.I like to learn what the student can teach me after assigned a reading. Have them go in the front of the room and explain a portion of the reading. It also helps them develop confidence in their public speaking. We all have different views, and I would like to find that gateway into the minds of children so that they can see and understand more. I use different methods for each individual. It depends on each person what they like and want in order to find the motivation in themselves. It is satisfying to see people realize that they can achieve more than they first thought.
