I have the exerience to do a super job tutoring.

Since I have been employed in the ELL Program, I am very comfortable working with small groups of kids and also in a one on one format.
I have 6 years working with students from grade level 5 to grade level 9,individually in classroom settings as well as in small groups outside their normal classroom. Four and on half of these years were spent in the ELL Program helping Hispanic students to incorporate their use of the English Language in their classroom academics. I have the ability to speak Spanish fluently, as well as read and write it. I also have spent four years teaching an after school class helping some struggling students with their Math, Language Arts, and Science homework.

I love mathematics and one of my passions is to teach it. I know that not everybody learns the same ways or has the same abilities for certain subjects and that is why I differentiate my instruction. I use the constructivist approach because I believe that students learn best by building on what they already know. I also like to use the Socratic questioning to make the students think critically which would help them throughout their lives.
I have worked as a para-educator since 1992 for the Yakima School District. My job is to translate and assist ELL students in the 8th grade mathematics and science classroom. I enjoy tutoring after school because some students learn best one on one and that gives me the opportunity to make a difference. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a certificate to teach 5-12, I hope that I get the opportunity to teach and make a differ ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children! I am patient and kind. I also have high standards and believe that everyone can reach their own potential. I celebrate the little sucesses! Part of my previous job entailed "independent work" from the students for about 2 1/2 hours each day. During this time I would work one on one with each student. This was a good challenge because everyone was working on a different level! It was exciting.
I graduated from Arizona State University with a Liberal Arts degree. This enabled me to work at JCPenney, working my way up the ladder. I ended that career as a Department Manager/Merchandiser supervising up to 25 people. I continued my education at Eastern Washington University earning a teaching credential and did my student teaching in the 2nd grade. Since then I was a substitute teacher; taking on any task, then eventually working in my own classroom teachi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am extremely passionate about learning and would like very much to pass my enthusiasm on to others. This is why I do plan to return to graduate school to pursue a PhD in education. It is my belief that children of all levels and backgrounds have the ability to learn and should be given that chance. I also believe that children learn in different ways and that it is important to help the child discover which way of learning benefits him or her the most. I am a patient and caring individual who would like the chance to help make a difference in a child's life.

I enjoy teaching all age groups. I especially like working with High School students.Initially, they can be quite a challenge to work with, but once they are engaged they are fully immersed in the topic! I like to be creative and interactive! I was a difficult High School student so I can relate to many that get bored with some topics. I really like to use transactional teaching methods. I introduce a subject and have discussions about the material rather than strictly lecturing.I like to learn what the student can teach me after assigned a reading. Have them go in the front of the room and explain a portion of the reading. It also helps them develop confidence in their public speaking.
As an undergraduate student at Central Washington University, I was self motivated and involved in various activities. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Sociology and BA in Law and Justice. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

We all have different views, and I would like to find that gateway into the minds of children so that they can see and understand more. I use different methods for each individual. It depends on each person what they like and want in order to find the motivation in themselves. It is satisfying to see people realize that they can achieve more than they first thought.
I have earned a bachelor of science degree in General Science, which means I have a very good understanding of many topics including: Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Computers, and Arts.
