In the past four years as an undergraduate, I tutored in virtually every area of my expertise: English, creative writing, mathematics, and physics. As a tutor in math and physics, I helped students understand both the theoretical concepts and the practical applications that they needed in order to thoroughly grasp the subject. In English and creative writing, I served as an editor on every scale, from helping students create a thesis statement of a manageable size to correction and instruction in grammar and punctuation. I recalled my difficulties in learning difficult subjects, my difficulties are not universal but I draw from them in finding what is blocking the student from grasping certain concepts. I recall teaching my children at a very early age the concept of ratios. I used windows, tiles from the kitchen, a pizza pie etc. This, before going to pencil and paper and it worked.
