A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with children for many years and in many different settings. I have observed so many different learning styles and I strive, as a teacher, to be flexible enough to help a child learn using their strengths. I do not expect perfection but I do expect my students to work to their potential. I also believe that my students need to feel as though they can openly discuss any problems or concerns with me. A Little Bit About Me...

In high school and throughout my college career, I have tutored many ages- varying from age 8 to age 30. I've earned a BA in English from Kent State University in 2007, and it has helped me to understand the importance of literacy in young adults as well as continuing education. I worked at the Ohio Literacy Resource Center as a tutor for college students, and have been involved with Junior Achievement and tutored French to third grade students for both Garfield Elementary School and Ella Canavan Elementary School in Medina, Ohio during high school.

More About This Tutor...

I always try to start from "where the student is" and build on from starting point. I believe in positive reinforcement and that anything worth having in life requires consistent effort. I frequently am told after a day of subbing, "Mr. Burns, you are the greatest sub ever!" My wife and I also still perform as musicians in local restaurants, including several Mexican restaurants where we perform many songs in Spanish.
I taught Middle School band for 30 years in the public schools, followed by 9 years part-time at the respected Old Trail School in Bath, OH. My bands at Bolich Middle School in Cuyahoga Falls, OH received many "Outstanding" ratings at O.M.E.A. contests. I have also substituted in several local school districts for a wide variety of subjects, including Spanish and French. I have also tutored Spanish privately, and given private lessons on piano and flute.
