A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I enjoy not only helping them learn, but also their backstory and considering how it affects their learning style. I also have an innate love of learning, and feel that it's a great gift to help someone realize their own potential.
During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web.

I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls with a BS in Marketing Communications. My minor area of study while at River Falls was Psychology, and over the course of my college career, my interest in the topic has developed into a career goal. I plan to return to UW River Falls this Fall to earn a Mater's degree in School Psychology. For the past six years I have taught and coached Swimming and Diving lessons to children ages 4-16. I have also tutored Junior High students in English.
I believe that every child has the ability to be a successful learner, and I enjoy watching my students grow and improve at different paces. I designed and taught a first-ever prekindergarten program at St. Anne School in Somerset, WI. I also directed and taught children's programs with the YMCA for children age birth through prekindergarten, having received the YMCA Focus Award for Excellence in Children's Programs. I directed the marketing and campaign programs for a school, which allowed me to utilize my expertise in writing, finances, community relations, as well as written and verbal communication. As cliché as this sounds - my favorite part of teaching is the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference. I have interacted with individuals across countless backgrounds and understand the idea of each student needing to hear things in their own terms.
