A Little Bit About Me...

I have a good experience of tutoring hundreds of students over a decade period of time. I have tutored from first grade student to bachelors' degree students. I have formally taught students from grades four to ten for six months as a science teacher. Recently, I helped my wife in Anatomy and Physiology I and II and Lab and College Algebra. She got straight A's in them upgrading her GPA. Most importantly, my tutoring helped my students to uplift their self-esteem, confidence and to accept learning as a process which can be made more pleasant and simple. :)

I went into further training at my high school and became a designated math tutor for those in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and Geometry. After high school I revisted my loved for tutoring at Jefferson County Community College where I tutored Reading Comprehension, Composition, and Study Skills. Throughout the years I have tutored a variety of students in various areas through freelance work, tutoring groups, and volunteer work. I lived in Cuba for 6 years studying medicine. I speak Spanish fluently from that experience although I was born in Florida. I love teaching and interacting with young people all over the world. I am culturally sensitive and I have a passion for language, medicine, and the arts. I would prefer if students have some basic background in the Spanish language because I focus more on conversation than grammar lessons.

My comments on tutoring Science : Basic knowledge of wide variety in Science genre.

I like to use working examples of principles. I also embrace the "why" behind the facts as a method of reinforcing knowledge gained.
Most of my training has been hands on experience. I consider this a bonus as it promotes practical application. I did attend Boston University in search of a biology degree and marine biology minor. Personal circumstances made completion unavailable. I have also received certification in varoius animal care related fields and also hold the status of First Responder for Marine Animal Strandings with the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

My personal philosophy is to let children make their own discoveries. I am essentially a person that will guide a student to that discovery and ask questions all along the way to activate their brain in terms of problem solving. In my experience, a child will have a stronger retention of subject matter if they are allowed to discover it and understand it on their own terms. I am also a believer in bringing a child's confidence level up, as many children give up before they even start a project because of low self confidence. Simply by encouraging the child to believe in his/ her capabilities, I will increase the productivity of the session and build a relationship on trust and mutual respect.

More About This Tutor...

I started to do community service back in November of 2009. After I was unable to find a job I stayed at the local Boys and Girls club as a volunteer. Being there so long the staff and some of the parents appreciated how much work I put into helping the kids. I was considering for a job but because of staffing issues they were unable to hire me full time.
Being around children that ranged from ages from six to twelve I had to find many different ways to teach kids how to learn things such as history even though they had problems reading and math even though they were just learning how to count. So at the start I would try a visual approach because if they could see the problem they were doing they had a chance to get the number right. If they had problems reading I would break down a word looking for smaller words that they knew. So I would have to say my teaching style would be an ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I graduated from Florida State University in 2004 with a B.A. in Spanish and Italian with a minor in French. I have been tutoring with the Modern Language Department since 2001 and tutor in all three languages. I also spent a month in Spain teaching English to native Spanish speakers. As an undergraduate, I was involved with the America Reads program, where I was a reading coach/language arts tutor to elementary and middle school children. I am also qualified in tutoring basic math and college prep math.
As a teacher/tutor, I find that being a good listener and paying attention to students needs creates a successful learning environment. Every child acquires information differently and their ways of learning should be respected. By creating lessons based on exciting, "real world" applications, students are more accepting to the content at hand.

A Little Bit About Me...

I adopt a simplistic yet effective 2 level approach. At the first level, I make sure that the concepts are crystal clear to my students and and at the second level I train my students to be competitive exam takers. Such an approach provides conceptual clarity as well as practical understanding of the subject.
I'm a researcher and educator. I earned a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Physics Hons. After graduating, I taught Physics, Mathematics and Science to high school, college and graduate students.
