My style of teaching really depends on the student and his/her learning style. Different students learn in different ways. I believe it is my responsibility to find which style works best for the student(s).
First teaching job was in a school for severely autistic children. After being there for a year I taught in a residential home for boys. This was challenging but probably one of my favorite jobs as a teacher. Because of the distance from home to work (about 1-1/2 hrs.), I applied at an urban school 20 minutes from my home. I have degrees that require me to do a lot of reading and writing. My career has been composed of teaching, reading and writing, as well as literature, at the Universities of Vermont and Connecticut. The teaching included freshman through graduate students - all levels of writing, in short. Much of it took place during individual conferences.
So my teaching styles are varried. As a tutor, one on one, we would be engaged in a conversation. My part would be to discuss the sublect of concern to the student. The student would ask questions, and we would end the session with a forcast of the next.
